CS650 是多參數智能傳感器，可以監測土壤體積含水量、容積電導率和土壤溫度。它的信號輸出方式為SDI-12，可用于大多數的 Campbell Scientific 數據采集器。如果采用到ET107蒸散站的話請選用CS650-LC。

CS650含有連接到印刷電路板的2根30 cm長的不銹鋼探針。電路板用環氧樹脂封裝，附著在電路板的帶屏蔽線纜提供與數據采集器的連接。
CS650測量傳輸時間、信號衰減和溫度；再從這些原始測量值解析得到介電常數、體積含水量和容積電導率。
測量的信號衰減是用于反射檢測的損失效應及傳播時間的修正。損失效應修正可以讓探頭在容積電導率 ≤3 dS m-1 的土壤中，測量出高精度的體積含水量，并不需要實施特定的土壤校準。
由衰減測量還可以計算得到土壤容積電導率。靠近環氧樹脂表面的與探針保持熱接觸的熱敏電阻用來測量溫度。如果傳感器水平安裝，可以得到與土壤含水量測量相同深度的精確溫度測量。如果以其它的方位安裝傳感器，那么溫度測量只能代表環氧樹脂附近探針的區域。
